About

Who I am and what I report on.

About

A little about me and the work.

I’m a journalist and recent graduate of Northwestern Medill. Currently, I am in D.C. reporting for The Texas Tribune on the Texas delegation and key midterm races. I’ve spent most of my reporting life in Washington, covering lawmakers, congressional hearings, Supreme Court oral arguments, and White House briefings. My byline has run in the Indianapolis Star, STAT News, UPI, The Fulcrum, and the Daily Northwestern.

Before Washington I was a Pulliam Fellow at The Indianapolis Star, writing daily breaking news and features for a metro newsroom. At The Daily Northwestern I led polling and data coverage, including WhoAreNU — a campus-wide survey of more than 700 students. I also founded the Northwestern chapter of the Arab and Middle Eastern Journalists Association to make more room for our voices in the newsroom.

I studied journalism and international studies at Northwestern, where I graduated cum laude, and I’m headed to Cambridge for a master’s in Politics and International Studies. I speak Arabic fluently and read the news in three languages.

The work I care about is meant to hold power to account and keep communities at the center — making the news more explanatory of how the institutions around us work, and not always how the world doesn’t.
